Free Summer Drawing Programme

FREE summer drawing programme at the Open Institute.

We are open on Wednesdays and Thursdays 2-6pm throughout August and early September. (Aug 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th, 27th, 28th, then 2nd  & 3rd Sept).

Each week there will be some focused group discussions, practical exercises to engage with and lots of time to make. There is no charge to take part and basic materials will be provided, but spaces are limited. The workshop is intended to be a shared working environment rather than a traditional art class. Learning will take place through practice: by making, looking, testing, discussing, reconsidering and working alongside other people.

Who is this for?

The group is central to the experience, and we want to be inclusive. Everyone brings knowledge, questions and ways of seeing; we are open to anyone with a serious interest in exploring drawing. You might be a student studying an art related subject or a graduate who wants to spend some time expanding your experience of drawing. You might be an artist looking to reconnect with drawing or you might be neither of these, just someone who wants to be immersed in making alongside like-minded individuals. We are looking for people who can commit to attending the majority of the sessions to get the most from the experience and so participants bond as a group.

I’m interested – what next?

Just come along! The sessions are held in the studio at the Open Institute. Find us in the Island Green Retail Park, in the former Next outlet, next to The Food Warehouse.
