Studio Plus+

At the Open Institute we are all about providing you with low-cost studios, so you have space to make art. But now we have the studios up and running, we want to build on that by launching Studio Plus+.

For £20 per month, you can become part of an ongoing programme of in person events at the studios built around helping you to keep making, thinking and developing your practice. Sign up month by month. No ongoing commitment.

Each month will include:

A talk by a visiting artist, so you can hear about how they work and take part in conversations about their practice.

Access to 2 group crits where you can share and discuss your practise in a supportive critical conversation with other artists.

FAQ

Why does it cost £20 each month to take part?

We want Studio Plus+ to be affordable, so we are trying to keep the costs as low as possible. By paying the fee you are helping us crowd fund the activities that everyone taking part will benefit from.

I don’t have a studio at the Open Institute. Can I take part?

Yes. You don't need a studio at Open Institute to take part. We want the studios to be an environment where knowledge can be shared peer-to-peer. Artists making work elsewhere can join and attend the events at the studios.

I only want to attend the visiting artist talks. Can I still join?

Yes. You can choose which parts of the programme to engage with.

I want to join but I have not taken part in a crit before.

No problem. There are no entry requirements except a wish to continue developing your artistic practise. We will be there to support you. We recognise that attending crits might seem daunting at first, or you might not yet feel comfortable talking about your work, but you can attend as an audience member to see how it works and get to know other people taking part before deciding if you would like to talk about your work.
